The Final Takeaway

During the past few weeks I have come to love this class. It makes me sad to know that its over but there are a few assignments that are gonna stick with me for a lifetime. The fear assignment did in fact scare me when I became part of the assignment. Becoming a volunteer is something I never do but I thought it would be okay to do it this time. That is the one major assignment that we did in this short period of time that is gonna stay with me forever. My creativity grew over the past few weeks so much that I cannot fully describe in this simple blog entry.

"Altered" Book of the Self

What is your opinion of combining technology and the human body as she did in the video?
I find it somewhat fascinating depending on what kind of technology and what is being used for in the human body. It all depends for me but I mostly don't mind it.

What is your opinion of combining a media arts and science project with your own body?
I wouldn't want to do something like that, maybe appealing more to my senses instead of the body.


How will you change this book?




I plan to physically slice it, cut into it, or rip it apart.

How will this book change you? 
All of my angers and frustrations against this book will hopefully be gone, all the bad memories I had with this book will make it easier for me to let it go. 

Fear Factor Response

1. The fear project was about using other senses and putting your trust in someone. Charles did this fear assignment.
2. I responded so strongly because I was one of the volunteers whose fears were tested. I was scared out of my whits because I had no idea what was going on. I am one of those people who NEVER volunteer for anything because I get so fearful.
3. I have come a long way regardless of what others say about my work I should be proud of it. Even if what I think I created stinks others may not be so quick to judge.

Bliss

I thought pretty hard but not completely understanding what I would like to do to my cover. I thought about my dog a lot and so I planned to use her image in some way. I spent a wonderful two hours on two different days with my amazing co-worker having lunch. We might as well be best friends because shes so nice, and friendly. It almost feels like I don't deserve her friendship but we sat and had lunch for two days talking about random things. After completing the bliss assignment I was still where I was before on the cover of my book. Using my dog as something creative.

Fear Factor Part 2

I presented what I had for the fear assignment. It wasn't any sort of experiment for the audience it was more of a personal fear that I have about sharing things I create. I got the reaction I expected from the audience as most of them share the same fears with me. There is nothing I would change except I would possibly make the class draw something as many people did which was a good idea because its one of my fears, I don't like sharing things with people.

Class Take Away 8

Time... that was the main focus of today's class. We all went around the room and explained to the class what we did using our senses and time. A few people chose to tune themselves out of the world, making it hard for them to hear anything if something were to happen. We didn't get to personal this class mostly because everyone was exhausted which I think was understandable for some people as we have someone that unfortunately has to work 3rd shift everyday.

Taste the Sound of a Second

Monday night after a long four and half hours working I went home to eat and enjoy myself. The past few days I haven't had dinner so I wasn't able to fully sit down and listen. So I chose to do it during a time when I was enjoying a midnight snack and my family who was in the nearby living room was watching Jurassic Park. I heard all sorts of strange noises as I was sitting their eating quietly. From snarling to the weird sounds my dad makes when he is about to cough. I heard the A/C and every time someone would move on the sofa I could hear that to, even over the dinosaurs roar.

Class Take Away 7

Once class started today we each talked about what rule we had "broken" if we broke a rule. I scribbled after I was inspired by someone on Xbox, while others broke their own personal rules such as don't sketch with an ink pen, or for someone else they went to a party even though they don't like those things. Everybody broke a rule no matter who it was which was the goal of the assignment. Following all of the conversation we watched a few videos, we watched Batholomew's song which was about breaking the rules and we also watched part of rivers and tides. That is where we ended the day after giving us our next assignment which is to listen to what you hear while your eating dinner.

Rules were made...

Having absolutely no idea on what I had planned to do, I went to play a game with my friends over xbox live. It's one of those games where players can customize their own "playercard" to whatever they wish. Game after game I would do as I always do and would look at other people's playercards. After a while I found this really bad one that was poorly done by using scribbles. Then it hit me that when we were little we were always told to color inside the lines. So I did the opposite.

Class Take Away 6

In class today thing's gotta a little serious at times and then there we other times where everyone was just laughing so hard. We helped a few individuals understand who they are because they said they didn't know who they were. So each person went around the room and described that person in one word. Little did she know that all the things we said about her were going to help her in the long run. After some serious notes we watched "pole banger" which I'm not gonna lie it was hilarious the first time and they when you compare it to rape it wasn't funny anymore. Well at least for me it wasn't, and that's what happened in class today.

1. What if I turned this book into a pop-up book.
2. What if I partially burned this book to make it look like it had survived a fire.
3. What if I completely burned the book and used the ashes in some way.
4. What if I cut designs into the pages of the book.
5. What if I left it as is.
6. What if I shredded the book and turned the shreds into something cool.
7. What if I let my dog rip it up and see what happens.
8. What if I cut a hole in it and used it to hide an item.
9. What if I made paper cranes out of the book.
10. What if I ran it over with my car.

Class Take Away 5

Today in class we didn't really have class. We went up to the 4th floor to see the cave and it was so cool. I never knew you could do virtual reality like that and I found it to be so interesting. That's all we did in class except talk about our next assignment which is 50 "What If" questions.

Class Take Away 4

In class today we mostly talked about sleeping on our altered books. We asked the question of why were asked to do that. Many people including myself did not understand why we were asked to do this, however the reactions of some people sleeping on their books was strange. One person was sleeping on their book and when the woke up several times in the night they were no longer sleeping on top of it. As for me I just got a crick in my neck and ended up removing the book from under my pillow. We also talked a little bit more about the altered book.

Sleep On It

You have asked us to sleep on what will be our altered book. Why I have no idea but let me just say that was very different. I slept on this book for a few hours, only to wake up in the middle of the night with a crick in my neck. So unfortunately I had removed the book from under my pillow so I may get a decent amount of sleep. Possibly you asked us to do this to get better connected to this book that we are supposed to hate in some way? I have not the slightest clue.

Class Take Away 3

Not much was done in class on Monday, we all shared what we did to our eggs and why we possibly did what we did. I made an ornament out of the egg and passed it around so everyone can see. Others chose to set it on fire, make it into a yoshi egg, or put it in a jar of vinegar. We got back into the 4 S's towards the end of class and talked more about the altered book. That's about all we did on Monday besides the usual side topics we often go into.

Class Take Away 2/ The Egg and the Eye

Today in class we showed the class our "doodle's" that were homework from the previous day we had class. We gave each other feedback as we critiqued each others doodle's. The 4 S's became more of a role in this assignment as we explained what we did for each of the S's if we had them incorporated into our doodle. She gave us an egg at the beginning of class and then told us to do something creative with it. Still not knowing what I plan to do with the egg she gave us some really good ideas in which we can turn this egg into something creative. We also went into more of the altered book and what we will be doing throughout this course.

Class Take Away 1

Today was the first day of the class. We explained what would possibly go on in class and outside of class, what is expected of us, etc. The class is so open to where you can do what you want not what the professor wants and we can also speak freely without the fear of judgement. What stood out to me the most was the use of the 4 S's. How honing the 2 internal S's can help you get to the external S's.
